Master Pearson Visit

Master Pearson from New York will be instructing a Kali (stick fighting) class this Saturday October 6th from 1:30-3:00 PM.


This is open to students that are either 15 years old or a black belt. You are encouraged to participate in this class as it is a very good learning experience.

Class Change in October 2007

Beginning October 4, 2007, Master Jones will be leading the 6PM class on Thursdays. While taking a different focus on traditional training, he will be extending the normal class time to 2 hours; class will be from 6-8PM.

Shuri-ryu Karate Classes

Beginning Monday, September 10th, Grandmaster Woodrow Fairbanks will conduct two one-hour Shri-ryu Karate classes at Ahn Taekwondo Institute. These are adult only classes (minimum age 16) and will be held each Monday from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The first class (5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.) will focus on the basic techniques and kata of the Art. Students are required to wear traditional Karate uniforms to attend these classes.

The second class (7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.) will focus on the integration traditional weapons, or Kobudo, (i.e. bo staff) into the training. This is an advanced class - for which permission must be granted by the instructor.

Students are responsible for purchasing and maintaining their own equipment.

Shuri-ryu Karate is an eclectic martial arts system developed by Robert Trias. In addition to the punches, blocks, and kicks of Karate, it also incorporates joint locks, take downs, throws, and traditional weapons (Kobudo) into the training.

Movie Night at Ahn's 9-29-2007

Parents do you need a night out? Ahn's Taekwondo has a solution for you! Movie night at Ahn's Taekwondo September 29, 2007 from 6:00 - 10:00 PM.

Drop off the kids (friends too) for a fun night of Dodgeball, Paddleball, Hula Hoops, Movies, Snacks and more.

Not only do you get a night out, but we are negotiating for you to get a $10 discount at a local dining establishment (to be announced) with the purchase of two entrees.

The night begins at 6:00 PM and we are here until 10:00 PM for you to have the night off and a nice dinner.

Grandmaster Fairbanks Weapons Seminar - Bo Staff


The Ahn Black Belt Society (ABBS) proudly presents a seminar by Grandmaster Fairbanks. This seminar will be a lecture and hands-on seminar (Blue Ash School) with regards to the Bo Staff. It will be held on September 22, 2007, from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM.

This seminar is open to
ALL students and styles and will encompass the basic blocks, strikes and their incorporation into forms. This seminar is ideal for the beginner up to the intermediate-level martial arts student. An advanced seminar will be held in November.
Admission to the seminar is $30 per person.

Sign-up is limited due to the space requirements of the seminar.

Bring workout clothing. Uniforms are not required. Students do not need their martial art belt.

Grandmaster Ahn visits Ahn Columbus


One week after celebrating his 70th Birthday and his Golden Anniversary of teaching martial arts to Americans, Grandmaster Ahn traveled to Columbus for a 2-hour Teaching Session. He was accompanied by Master Hickey and Master Jones to Ahn Columbus. Grandmaster Ahn visited the only branch school of the United Taekwondo Association (UTA) in central Ohio.

Grandmaster Ahn continues to teach, guide and mentor his students of the UTA, with the assistance of the Masters and Instructors in the Association. It is just his way of giving back to everyone, and continuing to share his knowledge of Taekwondo.

Ahn Columbus was established in 2003 by Master Bobby Jones and Mrs. Deanna Jones in the north-Columbus area. The UTA branch school continues today through the leadership of Mr. Jeff Borders, Mr. David Bishop and Mr. Drew Rea.

Ahn Taekwondo Celebrates 40 Years of Excellence


Under the guidance of Grandmaster Kyongwon Ahn, many students have been introduced to Tang Soo Do and Taekwondo, and have embraced it as part of their lives. On August 11, 2007, Ahn Taekwondo Institute will host an Anniversary Celebration to honor Grandmaster Ahn for his 50 years of teaching martial arts! This event also marks his 40th year of Teaching Excellence in Cincinnati and the United States as well as his 70th birthday!
Grandmaster Ahn began teaching martial arts in Korea, where he taught Korean and American Troops of the 321st USASA and 7th Infantry Division. From there, he has contributed greatly to the spread of martial arts across the United States and the world through his devotion and tireless dedication.

Ahn Black Belt Society Mentoring Class

AUGUST 15, 2007-- Master James Beasley (UC) will be leading a special mentoring class for students at the Blue Ash School beginning at 6PM. Master Beasley, Mentoring Committee Chairperson for the Ahn Black Belt Society, has set aside three classes this year to focus on developing students and to prepare them for senior ranks. His classes will focus on helping students become better black belts, improving their techniques and providing a little history of Taekwondo. Master Beasley is a 7th Dan in Taekwondo, 2nd Dan Judo, and an International Referee for the World Taekwondo Federation.

July Promotion Test a SUCCESS!!

Congratulations everyone who attended the July 27, 2007 Belt Promotion Test at the new school on 11100 Kenwood Road. Everyone did extremely well. Keep up the good work and get to as many classes as you can at your school! Don't forget to study your terminology and practice at home as much as you can.

Just a reminder that the next Belt Promotion Test is September 21, 2007. Black Belt Paperwork is due September 7, 2007.

The School is MOVING!!!

It's finally happening! The school is moving to it's new location at 11100 Kenwood Road. After all the months of planning, building and hoping it's all coming to a close. This Friday (June 29) at 7:30 PM classes at the current location will come to an end. With the help of everyone who is volunteering we will begin disassembly and moving of everything to the new school where it will be re-assembled.

Classes for Ahn Taekwondo Institute will resume on Saturday, June 30, at 11100 Kenwood Road.

If you haven't already sent in your comments to Master Hamilton and Mr. Hamilton about the new schedule please do so as soon as you can. They are interested in hearing from you about what you would like to see at the new school. New classes, new time schedules and new programs. What interests you? Are there better times? Who would you like to see teaching classes? Interested in learning a different aspect of Taekwondo, Hapkido, Tai Chi?? Let them know.

Who got the best group shot?

The only way to know is to send in your digital pictures for the online scrapbook, and everyone can be a judge!

How?
Submit your digital photos for the project to Media@AhnTaekwondo.com.
Developed pictures can be dropped off to the office.
They will be scanned and then returned to you ASAP.
8mm videos will be converted to DVD format.

Deadline is Friday, July 20, 2007.

Media received after that date will not be included in the online scrapbook.

2nd Car Wash Planned

Team Ahn will host another fundraising Car Wash Saturday June 23 from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM at 11100 Kenwood Road.

Stop by and get the car or truck washed while helping fund Team Ahn for it's trip to Florida for the AAU Taekwondo Nationals!

You'll be helping out a great bunch of hard training kids and saving yourself time by not having to wash that dirty vehicle of yours yourself.

Support Team Ahn! Car Wash

With AAU nationals approaching quickly, Team Ahn has been busy trying to raise funds to help with the cost of their trip. The team extends a big “THANK YOU!” to all of the families who supported this past weekend’s movie night. (If you missed movie night, don’t worry — there will be plenty more scheduled through the summer and fall!)

Well, Team Ahn is sponsoring another event this coming Sunday (June 17th). We will be having a car wash held at the new building from 12 noon until 4 pm. The team will wash and dry any kind of vehicle for a donation. If you need your car washed, or you’re just interested in some good clean
fun, come and join us on Sunday!

Ahn Taekwondo Movie Night

Ahn Taekwondo Movie Night (otherwise known as parent's night out)!

Who: All students, friends, and family members -- they don't have to be a Taekwondo student

What: A night of games, movies, popcorn, and fun

When: Saturday, June 9th, 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm (but they can be picked up early)

Where: Ahn Taekwondo Institute
9723 Kenwood Road (Keystone Plaza)

Why: Besides giving parents a much needed night out, and offering a night of great fun for our students, Team Ahn will be using this event as their fund raiser for nationals in July.

Details: The cost is $10 per child. Family discounts are available -- 2 children for $18, 3 children for $25, and 4 children for $30. Please see office staff or email Ahntkd@earthlink.net to register early.

Congratulations Masters!

June 1, 2007: Ahn Taekwondo Institute celebrates it's first test of the new facility by promoting two new 5th Dan Masters: Master Jamie Hamilton and Master Bobby Jones. Also promoted that evening was Master Vernell Rogers to 6th Dan. Grandmaster Ahn, 9th dan, presided over the event that commemorated the first test held at the new school.

Also promoted that evening was Mr. David Bishop, Ahn Taekwondo Columbus, 2nd Dan, Megan Hupp, Ahn Taekwondo Columbus, 1st Poom, Malik Desai, Ahn Taekwondo, 1st Poom, Nimit Desai, Ahn Taekwondo, 1st Poom and Stephan Rogers, Roger's Taekwondo, 1st Poom.

Thank you to all the Master's who sat on the testing board that evening.

Ahn Taekwondo Celebrates 40 Years of Teaching Excellence

Under the guidance of Grandmaster Kyongwon Ahn, many students have been introduced to Taekwondo, and have embraced it as part of their lives. In 2007 Ahn Taekwondo Institute celebrates the 50 years that Grandmaster Ahn has taught and mentored thousands of students from around the world. The many accomplishments he has made, and the endeavors that he has undertaken in the past half century has benefited American Taekwondo, the Taekwondo Olympic movement, as well as the preservation of the martial art itself.

Please join us in congratulating, thanking, and celebrating with Grandmaster Ahn in 2007, as we reflect on the multitude of contributions he has made over the years for the future of Taekwondo.

Ahn Taekwondo Promotion Test

2007 is a big year for Master Vernell Rogers, Miss Jamie Hamilton and Mr. Bobby Jones. Master Rogers will be testing for his 6th DAN, Miss Jamie Hamilton and Mr. Bobby Jones for their 5th DAN, all under the guidance and direction of Grandmaster Kyongwon Ahn.

2007 will also see Ahn Taekwondo, Blue Ash school, relocated to a facility almost 600% bigger than it's current location. The brand new facility is slated to be open June 1, 2007. Just in time for the June 1 promotion test.

The new school address is 11100 Kenwood Road, Blue Ash, OH, 45242. It's approximately 2 miles north of the current school location.
